The Collector's Log

Yuki's tide-pool log has a sea star and a hermit crab. Today the tide brings more.

Yuki's notebook for this stretch of coast already names two regulars: a sea star she's watched grow back a missing arm, and a hermit crab she suspects of being the same one she met last spring in a different shell. Today the tide goes out farther than usual and she finds an anemone clinging to the underside of a rock.

She'll ? the anemone to the log — it doesn't replace what's there; it joins it.

A few steps later, a small purple urchin in the next pool. She'll ? the urchin to the log as well, and walk home before the tide turns.
